Delicious as expected… but too large… please bring back the original recipe Ferns!!!!
Hello, Bakewell Tarts are made in 3' tart shells. Fern Cakes were made in tart shells that measured about 3' also. Months ago, we were using larger tart shells from a different supplier, but the current ones are as close to the original size that we can find.
'The original recipe Ferns,' cannot be brought back because they go against our commitment to improvement. The original recipe relied on margarine (which we no longer use), boxed cake mix (which we no longer use), and industrially made jam (we source our jam from a small farm in LeRoy, MI, now). Using almonds instead of the old fern design is traditional since fern cakes are simply reimagined Bakewell tarts.
In order to make the fern cakes to the specifications you're requesting, we would not only need to invest in ingredients we no longer use, but also a tart shell press that was about $30,000 the last time we checked. We simply do not sell enough tarts to justify that kind of investment.
The Bakewell tarts were delicious!
First time trying these and they were fantastic!
This is a bakewell! Huge!!! They aren’t kidding when they say each one is like two, so you really get an 8 pack. They are one of my repeat purchases!
These are more like a bakewell pie than a tart. They are huge! The description says you can share each one and have an eight pack. Or not…. The taste just has that bakery freshness you don’t get in the smaller boxed ones.
