One of our most beloved items isn't Scottish at all, Butter Tarts originated in the early 20th century in Ontario. These tarts are made with two types of raisins, butter, brown sugar, and eggs. The sweet buttery filling is then placed into a 4 inch flaky tart shell (made with lard - vegetarians take note). Butter Tarts are great with a cup of tea or coffee. They're also fantastic warmed up and topped with vanilla ice cream.
Just as I remembered from my visits to Canada. The crust is perfect.

Ackroydâs is always delicious. I really miss the smaller sizes from the old storefront, because itâs much prettier on a Christmas dessert table when everyone is on a diet January 1st.
