Butter Tarts are sweet blend of raisins, brown sugar, butter and eggs in a tart shell. Though the origin is disputed, Scottish and British settlers brought over Ecclefechan Tarts to Canada in the 19th century. Those tarts evolved into Butter Tarts. Even though Butter Tarts are distinctly Canadian, they may have Scottish roots.
